* City councilor says mayor's projection for new facility doesn't include land, other expenses

An Albuquerque city councilor is challenging Mayor Jim Baca's claim that the city could build a $30 million Downtown baseball stadium comparable to a renovated Sports Stadium.

Most of the members of the City Council favor a plan to renovate the existing stadium at an estimated cost of $24 million.

Councilor Brad Winter contends Baca's estimate for a new stadium omits costs for land acquisition and other expenses he says would raise the price to about $34 million.

Lawrence Rael, the city's chief administrative officer, responded Friday that Albuquerque already is obligated to buy the proposed site at Third and Lead even if it is not used for a stadium. …
