Officials Need Only To Convince Communities

The APS district has cleared most of the hurdles that would prevent high schools from switching to a later start time, and now it's up to school officials to drum up support for the schedule change, the superintendent says.

Valley and Manzano high school clusters have until March 31 to determine if they have enough community support for the schedule change that would have high schools switching start times with elementary schools, Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Brad Allison said Thursday.

Allison said that while he's leaving the final decision up to the two clusters, he expects the time change will go districtwide within two years. …
