Artist incorporates metalworking, humor into her mixed-media pieces

Some little girls dream of growing up to be movie stars, astronauts, police officers or cowgirls. Cynthia Cook dreamt of becoming an artist, and she did.

Her work is a cross-cultural incorporation of advertising images, religious iconography, photography, sculpture, collage and jewelry. Her materials include tin cans, bottle caps, feathers, egg shells, seed pods, broken glass and other debris.

Cook has been a professional artist for 13 years with 300 shows in more than 20 galleries in 15 states. Her work has appeared in many art fairs, including the past two years in the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Art Exhibition, and for 10 years in Spanish Market/Contemporary Interpretations in Santa Fe.

Thanks to her shows at the New Stone Age Gallery in Los Angeles and the Folk Tree Gallery in Pasadena, Cook has works in the private collections of Demi Moore, Madonna, Carly Simon, members of Pearl Jam and many other superstars. …
