Workshop Attendees Discuss Inequalities

Enveloped in emotionally charged conversations punctuated with tears, anger, and even laughter, more than 50 New Mexicans grappled with the topic of racism at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center last Saturday.

The workshop was sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Rocky Mountain Synod.

It centered on several, long group discussions and the viewing of a 1993 film called "The Color of Fear." The film, recorded at a men's retreat, featured a racially diverse panel of men talking about racism in America.

"We still have a lot of inequities, but they've gone underground they're subtle," Don Perkins, one of the workshop's featured speakers, told the group before the film began. …
