Catholic School May Have Slowed Growth

Rio Rancho Public Schools enrollment rose slightly this year, with a 2.4 percent increase in students.

Enrollment at Rio Rancho Public Schools hit 10,234 this year, after 120 days of school. The student count is basically unchanged from a tally taken on the 40th day.

District spokeswoman Kim Vesely said the opening of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School had an impact on the district's growth, which had been at 3 percent last year and had been averaging about 5 percent in years past.

Figures from St. Thomas, which opened to 150 students in kindergarten through fifth grade this year, were not available Thursday afternoon. …
