Chinese singer expected to soar for Santa Fe Concert Association.

It isn't every day that Santa Fe Concert Association director William Mullen finds an exceptional singer he's interested in presenting in recital.

But a CD featuring soprano Ying Huang was sent to his office two years ago, and as soon as he heard the Chinese singer's clear, high voice he knew he wanted her for the concert series.

"Santa Feans don't often get to hear such great singing," he says. "She's really special. When I asked her management company to book a recital here, I requested a program of operatic arias rather than lieder. I made one of the conditions of the contract that I had to approve of the concert's repertoire, so I could feel sure it would be a program of interest to the community. …
