Activities Director Earns State Honor.(Schools)

High School Staffer Advisor of the Year

Susan McConnell has only been an activities director for the last four years. But apparently, that time has made an impact at Rio Rancho High School.

This year, a nomination by her students won McConnell Advisor of the Year recognition by the New Mexico Association of Student Councils.

"I think it's wonderful to be recognized," McConnell said. "Especially by your kids."

McConnell was hired as the school's first activities director in 1997, after seven years teaching at an Albuquerque elementary school. She had her master's degree in educational administration and had asked a friend, who was an activities director, to teach her everything she knew before she interviewed for the Rio Rancho job. …
