Tall Vixens To Meet Eagles in Semifinals

LAS CRUCES Height and experience paid dividends during Wednesday's quarterfinal round of the Class 2A girls state basketball championships at Onate High School.

Fort Sumner made the most of its height, Navajo Prep cashed in playoff experience, and both schools advanced to today's semifinals.

The Vixens moved on with a 44-28 triumph over McCurdy, while the Eagles grounded Hatch Valley 61-47. Fort Sumner will take on Navajo Prep in a 9 a.m. semifinal at the Pan Am Center. The second semi, set for 2 p.m., will feature the winners of Wednesday's late Texico-Tularosa and Coronado-Hope Christian games.

FORT SUMNER 44, McCURDY 28: Turnovers plagued the Bobcats (21-5) from beginning to end, as the Vixens (20-5) used withering man-to-man pressure to force 24 McCurdy turnovers. …
