Chorus Expands Into Opera.

The East Mountain Community Chorus will perform "A Gala Evening of Famous Opera Choruses" on Saturday and Sunday in Sandia Park.

Many area residents are familiar with the East Mountain Community Chorus from its yearly Christmas performance of Handel's "Messiah." This is the group's first foray into opera and a spring concert.

The program will include highlights from "Madama Butterfly," "La Traviata," "The Meistersingers," "Tales of Hoffman," "Carmen," "Prince Igor" and other well-known operas.

Most of the chorus members live in the East Mountains and volunteer their time singing. The gala soloists will be soprano Heather Alvarez, mezzo-soprano Julia Thomas-Green, tenor Eric Martinez and baritone Brady McElligott. …
