Council Changes Earlier Vote To Withdraw Preapplication

A preapplication filed by the city of Moriarty to get a loan for a sewer extension north of Interstate 40 is back on track.

The Moriarty City Council voted unanimously at a special meeting last Thursday to let the preapplication to the New Mexico Finance Authority go forward, two weeks after councilors had voted to withdraw it.

The city had not contacted the NMFA to withdraw the preapplication before last week's vote.

Several conditions were placed on the council's approval of the preapplication. One stipulates that the cost of any sewer extension be paid by property owners it serves through a special assessment district.

The council also agreed to allow the preapplication only if the city completes a sewer master plan.

Mayor Adan Encinias explained that he had directed city staff to file the preapplication in December before the council had a chance to consider it. …
