Seattle Quake Changes Plans

Plans by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's new director to visit New Mexico on Friday have been shaken up by the earthquake near Seattle on Wednesday.

FEMA head Joe Allbaugh had planned to tour Los Alamos and other areas burned by last year's Cerro Grande Fire. That visit has been postponed with no new date set, said Pam Baggett Johnson, a spokeswoman for FEMA's fire claims office in Santa Fe.

"We're just standing and waiting," Johnson said.

Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M., said in a telephone interview that he was meeting with Allbaugh on Wednesday when President Bush called Allbaugh about the quake. …
