Classical music radio listeners are worried about KHFM-FM (96.3), New Mexico's longtime classical station.

They're sending e-mails and letters about rumors that the station is going off the air, or is being forced from its place on the tuner to a less powerful frequency.

Citadel Communications, which owns KHFM, isn't offering any answers, either. Messages left for Gayle Shaw, the general manager, have gone unreturned.

Kip Allen, KHFM's programming manager, said he hasn't been told anything regarding the station's future plans.

Pat Wallwork, a local media buyer whose clients buy advertising time on local radio stations, said she is hearing rumors that the station's owners are planning to move KHFM to another frequency on the FM dial. …
