Suspect in Slaying Attempt Is Out of Jail

An Albuquerque police detective handling a domestic attempted murder case said Wednesday he was surprised when he found out the suspect had been released from jail just two days after the incident.

The suspect, Theresa Kornfield, 46, was allowed out of jail on her own recognizance by state District Judge Ross Sanchez, according to a jail records employee.

A senior trial prosecutor involved in the case said Wednesday it's very unusual for someone charged with such a crime to get out of jail on his or her own recognizance.

Prosecutor Gary Cade said he asked a lower-court judge to set a bond of at least $10,000 for Kornfield, who's suspected of pulling out a handgun and firing a close-range shot at her estranged husband Saturday at a school where he attends class. …
