Out-of-Work Employees in Search of Jobs.(Sports)

Just after noon on Wednesday, the fax machine in the office of the New Mexico Slam came to life.

One at a time, nine faxes came in. The content was the same in all nine, but each was addressed to a different employee.

The faxes were the termination notices for nine of the 10 employees in the front office of the Slam. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, they were all fired.

The Slam ceased operations at 5 p.m. The employees, from Rob Robbins as general manager and head coach to receptionist Traci Henderson, were suddenly unemployed.

Only Casey Owens will stay on the payroll. His job is to liquidate assets (floor, video table, about 1,000 chairs) and use that money to pay bills. …
