Matta Served Well In Center's Launch.(Editorial Page)


Santiago, Chile, native Eugene Matta left a prestigious East Coast job to become director the the National Hispanic Cultural Center of New Mexico in 1998. He took the leadership position at a critical stage, when the center was starting its big transition from dream to bricks and mortar.

When Matta resigned last week, he could look with satisfaction at a tenure which saw phase one of the center up and operating. The center had a grand opening which will be long remembered among the major Albuquerque events, as it cemented ties with Spain through the visit of an entourage headed by its crown prince, Don Felipe de Borbon. …
