Jenkins Scores 24; Sandia Tops Highland.(Sports)

Chris Jenkins is feeling healthy these days and leaving Sandia's boys basketball opponents uncomfortable.

Jenkins pumped in 24 points Tuesday night, including three 3-pointers, to lead the fifth-ranked Matadors to a 65-62 victory at Highland.

A 6-foot, 7-inch senior, Jenkins has battled through a severe ankle sprain and a bout with mononucleosis this season. He's healed and heated up lately, scoring 76 points in his last three games.

Jenkins got Sandia (14-3, 4-1 in District 2-5A) off to a fast start Tuesday, scoring nine first-quarter points to lift the visitors to leads of 13-2 and 20-11.

"I've been working on my 3-pointers more lately," Jenkins said. "My stroke's feeling pretty good right now."

Highland (9-8, 1-4) played the first half without leading scorer Mark Walters, who was suspended for missing a practice. …
