Truck Crash Closes I-40


Authorities evacuated part of Gallup on Tuesday after a truck carrying military explosives crashed on Interstate 40.

No one was injured, and none of the explosives detonated.

I-40 was closed after the crash and traffic was rerouted through Gallup. It reopened about 4 p.m., and the evacuees were allowed to return home.

The tractor-trailer rig was westbound on I-40 near central Gallup around 8:40 a.m. when it hit a patch of ice, jackknifed, and slid off the road, striking a light pole and guardrail, said State Police Sgt. Rick Doty. It was traveling about 60 mph. …
