Driver Proposes Roundabouts To Slow Speeders, Improve Flow.(Metro & New Mexico)

RALLY 'ROUND THE ROUNDABOUT: The speed-bump debate continues, and Lea Long suggests via e-mail an alternative solution to lead-footed drivers. "Being married to a person who also hates speed bumps, I keep wondering why the city doesn't install more 'roundabouts' in intersections," she writes. "They are common in Europe and serve to slow down traffic as well as to facilitate people going through those intersections without collision. I would still have to listen to my husband complain, but the ride would be smoother.

"Another advantage to the roundabout is that cars are not stopped at signals or stop signs, but continue moving, and that is supposed to reduce pollution, or so I've been told. …
