Bill Would Limit Telemarketing Calls.(Editorial Page)

Here's a pair of bills that speak to the everyday aggravations of anyone in New Mexico who has a telephone. Sen. Dede Feldman, D-Albuquerque, and Rep. Delores Wright, D-Chaparral, introduced legislation last week to provide a mechanism for New Mexicans to shield themselves from unsolicited telemarketing calls.

Both bills would prohibit telemarketers form masking their identities from caller ID features. But their most important feature would be to establish a list of those who do not wish to receive calls from telemarketers. Telemarketers would be prohibited from calling those listed on the database.

Those could end up being very large databases. …
