* Federal officials want to use the study to determine the blaze's long-term economic impact

An internationally known accounting firm is preparing a study of the economic havoc created by the Cerro Grande Fire in Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Sandoval and Santa Fe counties.

In particular, federal officials will use the study results to determine the level of damage to surrounding real estate values caused by the huge blaze, said Don Erbach, director of the Office of Cerro Grande Fire Claims for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

"It's a basis, a start" on determining how the fire may have diminished the value of still-standing structures after the fire, Erbach said. …
