Conference offers a parent-oriented Family Literacy Day

Are you a parent looking to boost your child's reading ability? Can you spend part of this Saturday, Feb. 3, to snag literacy ideas in a friendly atmosphere?

Can you spare $40?

If you answered "yes" to each of the above questions, then you will want to check out the third day of the International Reading Association's Southwest Regional Conference.

Saturday is Family Literacy Day at the four-day conference, which is being held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Joyce Robertson, the conference chair, said the conference is aimed at helping teachers learn new methods of working with literary issues.

"Literacy education is going through so many changes and we're having to find ways to meet the needs of students who we need to challenge or who are not at grade level," Robertson said. …
