Comedian Marc Maron's life has been one strange journey.

It will get a bit stranger this week, when he returns to Albuquerque to perform at a ceremony honoring a former teacher.

"It's going to be so bizarre," said Maron from his home in Queens, N.Y. "I'm going to be doing a standup show in the same place I was bar mitzvahed."

In fact, Maron will cap off an evening honoring educator Marilyn Reinman, co-director of education at B'nai Israel Synagogue. Reinman taught Maron when he was 8.

"When they told me I was performing in the sanctuary, I said, 'Isn't that wrong or weird?'

"Maybe I'm getting a second chance to do it right this time, because I was such a pain in the ass in Hebrew school. I was such a troublemaker," Maron recalled.

In fact, Reinman remembers Maron as a well-behaved student.

"Maybe to his folks he was a pain in the butt, but he certainly wasn't to me. …
