LAS VEGAS, N.M. To spend five minutes with Henry Sanchez is a lot like stepping into a time machine to days gone by.

At 62, the man famous for his Coke-bottle glasses and cheeky grin is among New Mexico's elder statesmen of the high school basketball coaching profession.

Currently the boys coach at Robertson, Sanchez is the curator of a remarkable personal career that has spanned better than four decades.

Having taken the grand tour of the sidelines during a career that has gone from high school to college and back to high school, Sanchez is in the midst of his 41st season on the bench. He has been around so long, his days as a head coach date to the middle of the Kennedy administration and to a time, he says, when basketball was more of a game than it was a business. …
