Water Leak Shuts Ortiz Library.

The library at Ortiz Middle School remains closed after a thousand gallons of water burst from the ceiling over winter break, destroying seven computers.

A pump, lodged in the ceiling to circulate hot water through the building, had worn out.

"It burned out, I guess, from age," Ruben Mirabal, chief operations officer for Santa Fe Public Schools, said Friday.

Luckily, no books were swept away or damaged.

But the library has remained closed because of a foul odor.

"It now has such a horrible odor in it," Principal Janet Taylor said Friday. She recently tried to hold a meeting there but had to relocate it after people complained of feeling sick. …
