Experts Testify In Case Against Sotheby's

ALBUQUERQUE All the elements were in place in 1998 for a history-making sale when Sotheby's presented the Spanish colonial antiques collection of Al Luckett, according to testimony Friday in the federal trial of the suit brought by the Santa Fe art dealer against the New York auction house.

Luckett has accused Sotheby's of failing to live up to its end of an agreement to market and sell his 250-piece collection, which drew about $1.2 million in purchases but failed to auction nearly one-third of the material. Attorneys for Sotheby's have responded that Luckett's expectations were unrealistic and that auctioneers did the best they could to drum up interest in an eclectic collection. …
