4 Teachers Honored By APS.(Metropolitan)

Four Albuquerque schoolteachers received awards Friday named in honor of the district's most tenured teacher.

The Marshall Floyd Teacher Recognition award is named after Floyd, who has taught science at Highland High for 48 years. Floyd, who walks with a cane, says he plans to retire at the end of this school year.

The award was created three years ago when Dick Steele, president of the Highland High School parent advisory council, wanted to honor Floyd for his 45th year at the school.

"He just said 'don't honor me, honor the other teachers,' '' Steele said.

To be considered for the award, a teacher must have 10 years of classroom experience and must exhibit general excellence. …
