Education Top Priority in Chamber Poll.(Business)

Support for Tax Increase Indicated

Improving the school system and solving the shortage of skilled labor are the top concerns of Albuquerque business people, according to a membership survey of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce that was released Friday.

An overwhelming 80 percent of members surveyed said they believed the business community should be involved in public education reform, and 64 percent said they are likely to support a tax increase to help pay for it.

"We wanted to see whether businesses were willing to put their money where their mouth is," Richard Alvidrez, the chamber's chairman said. …
