Sandia Moves Closer To Land Case Win.(Editorial Page)

Sandia Pueblo moved one step closer to assuming outright ownership of the south face of the Sandia Mountains when Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt issued an opinion in the last days of the Clinton administration that the pueblo's east boundary should be resurveyed and moved to the crest. The boundary currently recognized is at the crest of the foothills.

Opponents criticized it as "a rush to judgment," and it did come as officials of the Clinton administration were cleaning out their desks. But, it wasn't exactly rushed. The record on the case was completed some two years ago, and Babbitt gave all parties an additional period to submit anything else, after the Court of Appeals rejected an appeal of the federal court ruling ordering the resurvey. …
