Rep. Seeks End to Doctors Tax

SANTA FE Rep. Heather Wilson on Thursday said health care in New Mexico has been "on the verge of a crisis" for the past year, and she called for new approaches to mental health care and the repeal of the state's gross receipts tax on medical services.

Wilson, a New Mexico Republican and former Cabinet secretary of the state's Children, Youth and Families Department, also said the state's managed-care system for mental health services has failed.

A federal agency last year denied a waiver to allow New Mexico to provide mental health services under Salud!, its Medicaid managed-care program. …
