Ads, Contributions Help Chamber Slate

A group of business organizations led by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce has thrown considerable financial weight behind its slate of candidates in the Feb. 6 school board election.

The candidates are benefiting from the first of $200,000 worth of television and radio advertisements the group bought to promote its school-reform plan in the Legislature and the school board slate.

The chamber and the trade associations also are contributing money directly and lending people to the candidates' campaigns, said Mike Stanford, chairman-elect of the chamber.

Many of the candidates not on the chamber's slate have accused the groups of trying to buy the election. …
