Some Say Zoning Changes Are Bad For Rural Areas.

Sandoval County officials say amendments to the county's zoning ordinance will be easier for residents to understand and use and easier for the county to implement.

However, several residents expressed concern that the changes could limit individual property rights and be unfriendly to rural areas.

Sandoval County commissioners discussed the proposed changes to the county's comprehensive zoning ordinance and listened to public comment during a work session Thursday.

Under review was a draft of the proposed changes prepared by the county Planning and Zoning Department and Planning and Zoning Commission following a round of public meetings held between Dec. 15, 1998, and May 25, 1999.

The zoning ordinance has not been amended since 1990, when zoning was introduced to the unincorporated areas of the county except for Algodones. …
