Candidates Are Split On Sex Ed.

All Favor Lockers, Not Reform Proposals

Rio Rancho school board candidates came out in favor of lockers and opposed education reform proposals by the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.

But the seven candidates, who appeared at a Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce forum Thursday night, disagreed on whether Rio Rancho should be teaching an abstinence-only curriculum in health classes.

The election is scheduled for Feb. 6 for districts 1, 3 and 5.

District 1 candidates were on opposite sides of the health curriculum issue, with Don Schlichte supporting the new plan and Rose Parvaz saying she had problems with it.

"I don't think that serves the needs of the children," said Parvaz, an attorney and stay-at-home mother. …
