Family of performers keeps in step with Spanish heritage

If flamenco is a family affair, then Farruquito is square in that tradition. Farruquito, an 18-year-old flamenco dancing sensation in his native Spain, is a member of the Montoya gypsy family of Seville.

"His grandfather, El Farruco Grande, was the godfather of flamenco in Sevilla," said Marisol Encinias, assistant artistic director of the Albuquerque-based National Institute of Flamenco.

"(Farruco Grande) is considered by many to be a genius because of the changes he made in the dance, the ways he used rhythms and interpreted dance with the music. …
