It's long been an axiom that there is no such thing as bad press. Modern rockers Waterface may or may not agree with that.

The Tempe, Ariz., group had a very successful year 2000, a year that included the band coming in second in the Jim Beam Rock Band Search national competition and being signed to Phoenix indie label Aezra Records, which released the five-piece's debut CD, "Seven Days."

But music industry types in the Phoenix metro area have been slow to embrace the band, possibly because its hard-edged modern rock sound isn't exactly in vogue in college music markets like Tempe. …
