* Mysterious artwork among items donated to Animal Humane Association fund-raiser

A dazzling cross with a mysterious provenance will be among the items auctioned off Saturday at the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico's "Art for the Animals 2001."

The event is the annual fund-raiser for the association, which provides shelter, medical care and love to stray animals.

Local and national artists have donated more than 100 pieces of original art for the silent and live auctions.

But the piece everyone is talking about is the "Croix St. Joan," a pink topaz and diamond-encrusted cross reputed to have been made by the great artist Faberge. …
