Kudos to Bill Sapien, new chairman of the Sandoval County Commission, for proposals to make the county's governing body more accessible.

Sapien proposes to take meetings out of the Bernalillo courthouse and into venues around the largely rural county.

Instead of trekking down to the southern end of the county to watch and weigh in on issues of particular interest to a remote community, its residents may be able to attend a meeting relatively close to home. With proper scheduling and coordination, roving commission meetings are likely to generate a much broader cross-section of residents and viewpoints.

The new chairman also pledges to hold open two hours on his schedule twice monthly for county residents to raise issues with him. …
