Water Groups Aim High in Goals for River.(Metropolitan)

A local citizens group and the Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments say they are taking a critical first step toward outlining a regional water-management plan.

The groups have drafted goals for the region, and they are aiming high. The water plan's mission is to "balance all water uses with renewable supply in perpetuity."

The proposed goals and mission statement will go before the Council of Governments' Water Resources Board today. Representatives from local governments make up the board.

Lee Brown action committee chairman of the Middle Rio Grande Water Assembly, a nonprofit citizens group that is helping develop the plan said the plan would be the first of its kind in the region. …
