Multiple murderer William Wayne Gilbert got away once from New Mexico's maximum-security prison, so he was transferred in 1991 to Ely State Prison, a super-maximum lockup in Nevada.

The former Vietnam veteran, now 51, is serving life in the Nevada prison for murdering newlyweds Kenn and Noel Johnson of Albuquerque, aspiring model Barbara McMullen and his wife, Carol, during three separate incidents in 1980. He also admitted killing two other people but wasn't prosecuted.

Previous stories said the former DEA informant also was involved in several other crimes, including a murder-for-hire plot. …
