Academy Bounces Pius In 4A's Musical Chairs.(Sports)

The game of musical chairs atop Class 4A boys high school basketball looks as though it's going to continue.

Just a few days after No. 3 (and previous No. 1) Los Alamos knocked off No. 2 Albuquerque Academy at a tournament in Roswell, the Chargers turned around and beat No. 1 St. Pius, their biggest rival, 67-57 in front of a raucous crowd at Academy on Tuesday night.

Next Tuesday, St. Pius visits Los Alamos.

The Chargers were nearly flawless, shooting 58 percent from the floor, knocking down 22 free throws to St. Pius' nine and committing only nine turnovers, thus preventing the Sartans' explosive transition game from taking off.

"We needed to come out tonight with an effort like this," said Academy assistant coach Greg Brown, who head coach Mike Brown, Greg's father, let run the team.

"We had an opportunity to refocus, and when you play St. Pius, you don't have to say anything special to motivate them."
