Clearing of Cases Often Beats U.S. Average

Serious crime declined again this year in Albuquerque, with the biggest decrease being a 31 percent drop in homicides, according to year-end crime statistics released Tuesday.

Crime in Albuquerque has been declining for five years, said Albuquerque Police Chief Jerry Galvin, and this year's 3.8 percent decline in the overall crime rate continues that trend.

"The news to our citizens is that (Albuquerque) is a safer place to live," he said during a news conference.
