End Nears For Water Hearings.

The debate over whether Rio Rancho will get a permit to double its use of well water and the conditions of that permit should wrap up today.

Rio Rancho applied in 1993 to double the amount of water it can pull out of the aquifer and to add 12 wells to the 19 it has now.

Last year, the Office of the State Engineer began a formal hearing on the request. The hearing's most recent session began in Bernalillo on Jan. 16 and continued into this week.

Corrales and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, on behalf of Sandia Pueblo, have protested Rio Rancho's application.
