Santa Fe Surges to 60-51 Victory.(Sports)

* The win puts the Demons in a tie for the lead in District 2-5A

It wasn't a thing of beauty, but Santa Fe High's 60-51 boys basketball victory over visiting Highland on Tuesday night was the latest step in a remarkable turnaround for the Demons this season.

Once mired in a five-game losing streak, Santa Fe (9-7, 3-0) finds itself a co-leader of District 2-5A, a district many consider to be among the toughest in the state.

Thanks to the win, coupled with Rio Grande's 92-69 dismantling of Del Norte on Tuesday, Santa Fe is tied atop the league standings and is riding higher than it has all season.

"Right now, we're in the best possible position going into Thursday's game," said Santa Fe head coach David Rodriguez, speaking of his club's visit to second-ranked Sandia High. …
