CLASSICS EDUCATION.

The Academy for Technology and the Classics failed to open as scheduled last fall but rose from myriad struggles to open its doors Monday inside the National Guard Armory.

The academy was idea of Santa Fe High science teacher Anita Gerlach. The school's ultimate leader, Karen Mendes-Fiedler, migrated midyear from her principal post at Santa Fe High.

The academy is built around classic books and the instruction of languages, from Spanish to Sanskrit.
