Campos Remembered as 'Good Hand'.(New Mexico)(Obituary)

Colleagues of Senior U.S. District Judge Santiago E. Campos, who died at home Saturday in Santa Fe, remember him best as a fair and patient man, with a sense of humor.

"He was one of the finest judges I've ever been associated with," said retired state Court of Appeals Judge Thomas Donnelly. "Being extremely fair and extremely patient was his hallmark."

Campos died after a long battle with cancer, his family said. A native New Mexican, Campos was born on Christmas Day 1926 in Santa Rosa.

During a lengthy and distinguished career as a lawyer and judge, Campos served as an assistant state attorney general and as a state District Court judge before being chosen for the federal judgeship by President Carter in 1978. …
