Clinton Rules Can Be Altered

A controversial new standard for arsenic in drinking water, and other environmental initiatives approved in the final days of the Clinton administration, are up in the air.

One of President Bush's first actions after his inauguration Saturday was to block some of his predecessor's final orders. Many Republicans had called on Bush to take quick action.

Several of the rules would have an impact in New Mexico, including: the arsenic standard by the Environmental Protection Agency; a policy to ban road building in large tracts of national forests; Bureau of Land Management grazing standards; and the designation of Tent Rocks Kasha-Katuwe National Monument. …
