Semi Plowed Into Trucks Of Pothole Repair Crew

A tractor-trailer rig heading out of Albuquerque Monday morning slammed into a state highway department truck doing pothole repairs on Interstate 40, sending three highway workers and the trucker to a city hospital.

The force of the collision caused the smaller truck to plow into another state Highway and Transportation Department pickup truck in front of it. One of the workers injured in the crash was later listed in serious condition at a city hospital.

A State Police officer investigating the wreck said he believes another worker might have been killed if the truck that took the initial blow hadn't been equipped with an "attenuator" a long, yellow plastic contraption on the back of the vehicle designed to absorb impact. …
