Dems' Anti-Porn Bill Beats Sanchez to Punch.(Legislature)

SANTA FE Democrats took the spotlight away from freshman Rep. John Sanchez, R-Albuquerque, by introducing their own version of a child pornography crackdown bill before he could introduce a similar proposal.

Sanchez, who pulled a major election upset in November by defeating longtime House Speaker Raymond Sanchez, made getting tough on child pornography a campaign issue.

"It's just interesting that (Democrats) dropped their bill before I did," Sanchez said Monday. Both bills were filed last week.

Sanchez said he is willing to work with Democrats to get the bills passed.

The Democrats' measure calls for making possession of child pornography a fourth-degree felony, carrying a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison. …
