APD Denies Rights Violated, Says Code Team Visits Needed

A Central Avenue motel owner is accusing the police department of using the city's housing code to target him for harassment.

Anverali Nagji, who owns the Prince Motel at 2411 Central Ave., alleges the Albuquerque Police Department's code enforcement teams served him with invalid search warrants and violated his constitutional rights. He says he is being targeted because of his race.

"It is only the Asian community they are targeting," he said.

Sgt. Mike Heister, leader of the west code team, says Nagji's allegations are false and that the motel was being targeted because of its deteriorated state. …
