Ice Pirates Shell Home Team Early

A season-high 8,071 fans packed into Tingley Coliseum on Saturday night only to head for the exits early as Lake Charles ended the New Mexico Scorpions' three-game winning streak with an 8-2 hammering.

Despite a lively crowd, the Scorpions never seemed to get energized, turning in one of their dullest performances of the season.

The Ice Pirates scored four power-play goals, three of them in the second period, when Lake Charles squeezed off 22 shots to the Scorpions' 12. The visitors, who were 11th in the Western Professional Hockey League on the power play, finished 4 for 7 on their chances with the man advantage. …
