Man, Wife Accused Of Bilking N.M. Program

The heads of a now-defunct Albuquerque firm accused of committing millions of dollars in health-care fraud are heading to trial Monday.

Sixteen jurors four of them alternates were picked Tuesday in Albuquerque for the trial of Shirley A. Jones and her husband Steven L. Jones, owners of Mega/Universal Oxygen and Home Care Services. Shirley Jones founded the company in 1989 and was its president. Steven Jones was vice president.

The federal government contends the now-defunct company defrauded the New Mexico Medicaid program out of more than $17 million by filing thousands of false claims for oxygen and related services that were never provided. …
